The first archaeometric characterization of obsidian artifacts from the archaeological site of Samshvilde (South Georgia, Caucasus)

This paper presents the first results about the provenance of obsidian fragments recovered in the archaeological site of Samshvilde (South Georgia, Caucasus) with the aim to obtain knowledge related to the network distribution and procurement of obsidian in Georgia. The geochemical characterization of thirty archaeological finds was obtained by the LA-ICP-MS method, an almost non-destructive technique capable of chemically characterizing the volcanic glass. The abandoned work is a form of voluntary incompletion because the interruption of the writing process is decided by the author himself. Abandonment is preceded by considerations and traces that make the process intelligible, especially when identified in avant-textual documents in which the author often not only plans the construction of the text but also reasons about it by tracing the criticalities that condition its progress. The article aims to reflect on some aspects of Georges Perec's abandoned works, showing how these are integrated within the completed works through the processes of dissemination and proliferation.
Ceramics from Samshvilde (Georgia): A pilot archaeometric study

Abstract This archaeometric study deals with seven samples of prehistoric pottery and, for the first time in Georgian studies, thirteen samples of glazed medieval pottery. All specimens were collected at Samshvilde, the most remarkable archaeological complex in southern Georgia and believed to represent locally-manufactured products. Two additional samples of raw materials composed of clay, silt, and sand were collected near the site and used to compare composition. Several analytical techniques were applied: Optical Microscopy (OM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Electron Probe Microanalysis (EPMA), X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and X-ray Fluorescence (XRF). Šī darba mērķis būs sniegt nelielu ieskatu, kas ir arī kā interpretācija, problemātikā, kas saistīta ar Sokrata tēlu Hāmaņa darbā “Sokratische Denkwürdigkeiten” jeb “Sokratiskās cēldomas”. Lai sasniegtu izvirzīto mērķi, vispirms tiks indentificētas problēmas, kas rodas darbā ar Hāmaņa tekstiem. Sekojoši, tiks ieskicēti daži metodoloģiski apsvērumi, kuri varētu būt noderīgi strādājot ar šādu materiālu. Balstoties uz iegūtajiem secinājumiem, mēģināšu identificēt tēmu lokus, kas varētu būt saistāmi ar Sokrata tēlu. Visbeidzot, pievērsīšos Hāmaņa teksta analīzei, lai iezīmētos tēmu lokus ievietotu kontekstā, kur tie iegūst nozīmi.

Sulla base della documentazione manoscritta, anche inedita, e di altre fonti si ripercorrono le vicende che portarono nel 1816 Barthold Georg Niebuhr a scoprire il palinsesto delle Istituzioni di Gaio nella Biblioteca Capitolare di Verona e si discute criticamente la casualità di tale scoperta.

In diesem Buch ist die Geschichte der Wiederentdeckung des Palimpsests mit den Gaius-Institutionen durch Barthold Georg Niebuhr neu verhandelt. Die jüngst wiederbelebte These von einer „angekündigten Entdeckung“ wird in Frage gestellt. Das verzerrte Bild des Niebuhrschen Fundes in der Sicht dieser These ist kein Zufall. Es stellt sich vielmehr als später Nachklang wissenschaftlicher Querelen jener Zeit dar.
